U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will testify on the Obama administration's blueprint for reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act on Wednesday, March 17, before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, and the House Education and Labor Committee.

This blueprint builds on the significant reforms already made in response to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 around four areas: (1) Improving teacher and principal effectiveness; (2) Providing information to improve students’ learning; (3) Implementing college- and career-ready standards; and (4) Improving student learning and achievement in America’s lowest-performing schools.
The Obama administration on Saturday called for a broad overhaul of President George W. Bush’s No Child Left Behind law, proposing to reshape divisive provisions that encouraged instructors to teach to tests, narrowed the curriculum, and labeled one in three American schools as failing.
